NOTE FROM WALLACE: Wendell was one of the Fugate family friends. Their son, Wendell, Jr. was one of Mark's best friend, who visted often and also went on trips with them.
Wendell, Jr. was at the Video Store when Pat was put on the speaker phone. He was going to go to Florida for a weekend with Mark, myself, Connie and her two daughters. Also present were Joe Thomas's wife, Thomas's oldest son, Mark, Connie and myself. They all heard Pat tell Mark I wasn't paying child support (being paid through Sheriff's Office) and that I would sexually abuse him if he went off with me. When Mark told Pat she was on the speaker phone she promptly hung up.

On Wednesday, June 26, 1991, at approximately 11:25 a.m., SAP J.C. WHIDBY, Putnam County INVESTIGATOR RICKY MIZE, and Putnam County SHERIFF EUGENE RESSEAU interviewed WENDELL H. COMBS at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department regarding a gun loaned to PATTIE FUGATE by COMBS. COMBS stated essentially as follows:
Sometime back I loaned PATTIE FUGATE a .22 caliber pistol. I believe it was along the time that she and BUCK (WALLACE) had first separated. PATTIE told me she and BUCK were having some kind of trouble and that her house had been broken into several times and she needed some type of protection for her and her son.
PATTIE did not tell me what kind of trouble she and BUCK were having.
AFTER I LOANED PATTIE THE GUN, I SAW HER AND BUCK TOGETHR ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THEY BOTH HAD COME TO MY HOUSE TOGETHER AFTER THE LOANING OF THE GUN AND I NEVER SAW EITHER ONE OF THEM HAVE ANY TYPE OF CROSS WORDS.
I have never seen BUCK with a gun whatsoever.
At approximately 11:35 a.m., COMBS identified an RG .22 caliber pistol with a4 inch barrel as the gun loaned to PATTIE FUGATE by him.
